As followers of Christ and people who are involved in the most participated sport in the country we have a great opportunity to showcase our faith in Jesus Christ. We know God’s reign is in all things, so let’s come together and uncover where God’s reign is in our sport, and begin a movement that ultimately saves souls and builds up the Kingdom of God.

1 Peter 4:10 says that each of us should use whatever gift we have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. In other words, as believers and followers of Christ, we are called to use our placement and influence in the sport of soccer as a vehicle for building God’s Kingdom. We are called as Matthew 28 says, “to go”, but how?

Based on a concept from Hugh Halter’s book, The Tangible Kingdom, AIA Soccer has created a ministry strategy that uses the sport of soccer to share the love of Jesus and ultimately build His Kingdom. The strategy is called Cornerstone because in its essence, we believe that those in our communities may one day make Jesus the cornerstone of their life.

Isaiah 28:16 states ‘So this is what the Sovereign LORD says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone for a sure foundation; the one who trusts will never be dismayed.”’

With the life of Christ as our model, Cornerstone is built upon three things that He did on earth that made the kingdom of God tangible. Jesus taught the Word and proclaimed the Truth, Jesus spent time and gathered in places with people of all types and race, and finally Jesus loved and served all who surrounded him through his miracles and acts of kindness. These three themes: Teaching, Gathering, and Serving, are known as the Incarnation Circles and are the base points for Cornerstone.

  • Teaching: Proclaiming the word of God. Followers of Christ coming together in a time of teaching, fellowship, and prayer
  • Gathering: Reflecting Christ. People from all different walks of life, places of Faith coming together as equals in a non-threatening natural community.
  • Serving: Demonstrating Acts of Justice and Mercy. Working together to love and serve people in our community.

It is our belief that whenever a group of people finds a balance among these three circles, we will always find the Kingdom of God. Cornerstone is not one or two of these incarnation circles done in a random way; it is all three elements done in rhythm. We believe that unless people experience all three elements together and fight for this Tangible Kingdom, there will not be evidence of people growing as Disciples of Christ or sojourners (a spiritually curious God-seeker), moving toward God.

We want to help equip you the best way possible and truly bless you as you go on in your faith adventure. With this in mind, we have created a Workbook and Instructional Video that explain more components of Cornerstone and how it works in the community.
