Women’s Slovakia Hockey Tour
Dates: August 18-28, 2013 These dates are still tentative, so check back for updates.
Cost: $3250. This includes your airfare from Calgary (departure city to be confirmed), all meals for the duration of the tour, lodging, team gear, travel insurance, and ministry materials. This amount is subject to change once flights are confirmed.
Who: We would like to invite high-level female players (Midget AAA to University) to join us on the Slovakia Hockey Tour.
Application Deadline: June 1, 2013. We are planning on booking flights mid-June, and in order to confirm a spot on the team and have a flight booked for you, you will need to have $1000 turned in by June 15. We suggest you start raising your support immediately upon acceptance.
Purpose: To continue to build relationships within the Slovak ice hockey community, specifically in the Presov area where our local contact lives and plays (click here for video). We will go there with the purpose to introduce Jesus to female hockey players – that they may discover who He is, while inspiring Martina and her Christian teammates to experience the power of the Holy Spirit as they share their faith with their teammates. Additionally, North American female hockey players will have a chance to step out in faith and discover how to be missional within the context of their sport, be discipled and experience community as they serve the Lord together overseas.
The team will practice and compete against several club teams in Slovakia (possibility of game or two in Czech Republic as well). After practicing with Martina’s team in Presov, the tour will travel throughout Northern/Central Slovakia doing the same with other club teams, with Martina joining us.
The day-to-day routine is not set in stone, but here are some things you can expect:
- Bible study/training to share your faith and grow in your faith
- 4-5 games against women’s club teams in Slovakia and Czech Republic
- Running practices and clinics with women’s and youth club teams
- Sharing your story and/or the Gospel
- Free time
- Travel/shopping at local markets / local sight-seeing
